OTA commission for tours in 2026: how much each channel keeps and when to sell direct
Airbnb Experiences keeps 20% of each tour. GetYourGuide and Viator do not publish a single percentage, and Civitatis negotiates the commission with each partner and pays the following month. On a sample R$ 160 tour, a direct sale with Pix leaves R$ 30 more per seat than Airbnb.
How much does each tour OTA charge in 2026?
Only Airbnb publishes a percentage. The other OTAs set the commission in each supplier's contract, by country, destination or negotiation. The number that counts is the one in your partner dashboard.
What the official pages say, accessed on October 25 and 26, 2026:
| Channel | Commission | How and when it pays |
|---|---|---|
| Airbnb Experiences | "Usually" 20% per booking, withheld from the payout | Through Airbnb, deducted |
| GetYourGuide | Varies by country of operation; disclosed after sign-up | Only on completed bookings. Monthly at no cost, or more often for a surcharge |
| Civitatis | Negotiated with each partner | The tourist pays 100% at booking. Settlement comes at the start of the following month, minus the commission |
| Viator | We found no open official page with the percentage | In the supplier contract |
| Bókun (channel manager) | Not an OTA: 1% to 1.5% per booking on paid plans, 0% on Viator and offline bookings | Plan fee plus the per-booking rate |
Bókun is in the table because it distributes the tour to several OTAs. Its fee adds to each channel's commission, except on Viator.
The GetYourGuide and Viator percentages that circulate in blogs and forums have no official source we could open. That is why they are left out of this text.
How much is left from a R$ 160 tour on each channel?
After commission, R$ 128 is left through Airbnb and R$ 158 through a direct sale with Pix. The rest of the departure's cost is the same on any channel.
The table is an example. The other OTA's 25% commission and the partner hotel's 15% are assumptions. Replace them with the numbers in your contract.
| R$ 160 seat (example) | Direct sale with Pix | Partner hotel | Airbnb Experiences | Other OTA |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Commission or fee | R$ 2 (Pix) | R$ 24 (15%) | R$ 32 (20%) | R$ 40 (25%) |
| The agency keeps | R$ 158 | R$ 136 | R$ 128 | R$ 120 |
Now the whole departure. A 30-seat boat, with 10 direct sales, 8 from the hotel, 6 from Airbnb and 6 from the other OTA:
| 30-seat departure (example) | Seats | The agency keeps |
|---|---|---|
| Direct sale | 10 | R$ 1,580 |
| Partner hotel | 8 | R$ 1,088 |
| Airbnb Experiences | 6 | R$ 768 |
| Other OTA | 6 | R$ 720 |
| Departure total | 30 | R$ 4,156 |
| Same departure, all direct | 30 | R$ 4,740 |
The difference is R$ 584 per departure. With two departures a day in high season, it adds up to more than R$ 1,000 a day.
That does not mean the OTA loses money. An empty seat earns zero. If the OTA fills the last seats of a departure that would go out anyway, the R$ 120 pays off. The problem is when the OTA takes the seat of someone who would have bought direct.
When does the OTA money arrive?
Weeks after the tour, while the guide, the boat and the fuel are paid on the day. That gap is the cost that doesn't show up in the commission.
- Civitatis: the tourist pays everything at booking, but the agency can only request payment from the 1st of the following month. The FAQ says a request made during the week is paid the following Tuesday.
- GetYourGuide: monthly payment at no cost, or more often for a surcharge. Each cycle pays the completed bookings, minus the commission.
- Partner hotel: follows the settlement agreed with each hotel. Without a per-booking record, who sold what turns into a negotiation.
- Direct sale: the Pix lands the same day, in the agency's account.
A September 15 tour sold through Civitatis reaches the cash register in October. In high season, the agency fronts up to a month of operations before getting paid.
How do I check the OTA payout against the boarding list?
Compare each paid booking with who boarded and with the commission in the contract. The gap between what the OTA sold and what it deposited always has a booking behind it.
Step by step, once a month and per channel:
- Download the month's booking report from each OTA's dashboard.
- Mark each booking's status from the boarding list: boarded, no-show, canceled or rescheduled.
- Apply the contract commission to each completed booking. GetYourGuide, for example, only charges on completed bookings.
- Add up the expected net amount and compare it with the deposit.
- List the differences with the booking number and open a dispute with the channel's support.
- Do the same with partner hotels: who sold, how many boarded and each one's commission.
Without a digital boarding list, step 2 relies on the guide's memory. With one, every seat has a status, and the check is done in an afternoon.
How do I bring more tourists to direct sales?
Sell direct to people who are already nearby: the tourist in town, the partner hotel's guest and the person coming back on a later trip. For them, the reason to buy on an OTA is trust. A direct sale has to offer the same security.
- Cadastur in plain sight. The General Tourism Law requires tourism service providers to register with the Ministry of Tourism (art. 22). § 6 also requires registration when advertising online and on digital platforms.
- Payment to the agency's CNPJ. A Pix or card link in the company's name shows the tourist who they are paying. Pix to a personal account, with a screenshot as proof, drives away anyone afraid of scams.
- Instant voucher. Once paid, the tourist gets the voucher with date, time, meeting point and boarding QR.
- Written cancellation rule. The tourist accepts the rule before paying. See what to do when a tour is canceled due to bad weather.
- Fast replies on WhatsApp. Someone who asks for a price and waits hours buys on the OTA.
- Hotel commission calculated per booking. The hotel sells more when it knows how much it will get and when.
How CERNE solves it
CERNE brings the channels into the same departure and takes every seat all the way to the cash register, with each one's channel and commission.
- Bookings from every channel. WhatsApp, the website, partner hotels and the counter share the same capacity. OTAs come in through Bókun, with Viator and GetYourGuide.
- Pix deposit in the agency's name. The deposit lands in the agency's CNPJ, and the seat goes back on sale if it doesn't arrive in time.
- Voucher and boarding list. The voucher arrives with the QR, and the guide scans it at boarding. No-shows appear right away.
- Partner commission. The hotel and the agent who sell have their commission calculated per booking.
- Finance and reconciliation. The bank statement is reconciled with each sale, and the NFS-e goes out through Focus NFe.
- Direct question. In the AI assistant, management asks "how much do the OTAs owe for September, and does it match who boarded?".
The tourism package is being built with Porto Nativo Turismo, an inbound agency in Porto Seguro that receives payments through Pagar.me. See the workflows on the tours and tourism page and the cards for each function.

Frequently asked questions
- How much does Airbnb Experiences charge the host?
- Usually 20% of each experience booking, withheld from the host's payout. The figure comes from the Airbnb help center (article 1604), accessed in October 2026.
- What commission does GetYourGuide charge tour suppliers?
- GetYourGuide does not publish a single percentage. Its supplier page says the fee varies by country of operation and is disclosed after sign-up. The commission applies only to completed bookings.
- When does Civitatis pay the supplier?
- The tourist pays 100% at booking. Civitatis settles bookings at the start of the following month, with the negotiated commission already deducted. The payment request goes out through the dashboard from the 1st, according to the official supplier FAQ.
- Is it worth selling tours on OTAs?
- It is for the tourist you wouldn't reach on your own, if the margin after commission covers the departure. For people already in town, at the partner hotel or returning from another trip, direct sales leave more per seat.
- Does a tour agency need Cadastur to sell online?
- Yes. Under the General Tourism Law (Law 11.771/2008, art. 22), tourism service providers must register with the Ministry of Tourism. § 6 also requires registration when advertising is done online or through digital platforms.
- How can I reduce the weight of OTA commissions?
- Calculate the margin per channel and use the OTA to fill the seats direct sales don't fill. Bring the tourist who is already in town to the agency's payment link. Check each payout against the boarding list.
